Sea-Doo Tips for First Timers!

With summer just around the corner, you may want to get out on the water! Sea-Doos are an exciting option to do just that and have a great time! Many of you may not be familiar with riding Sea-Doos, so here are some tips for first-timers!

Attach Your Key Lanyard to Your PFD

This may seem like a simple step, but it is an easy and important one for beginners. Attaching your key lanyard to your PFD, also known as a lifejacket, before starting your Sea-Doo will make it so that if you do fall off, the engine will stop immediately.

Familiarize Yourself With The Controls

Knowing where to locate important buttons and features on your Sea-Doo prior to leaving the dock is a necessity. The first button to find is the START/STOP button, and then familiarize yourself with starting and stopping the engine. Some Sea-Doos have multiple modes and features like Sport mode, Eco mode, and Intelligent Brake and Reverse. Getting familiar with these will help make the ride easier and more enjoyable in the long run.

Check Gas

Before heading out, check your gas gauge and ensure you have a full tank! We recommend filling up your Sea-Doo at a gas station before putting them in the water since on-water gas stations are taxed at a higher rate and charge premium prices!

Keep Important Paperwork

Storing important paperwork on board with you in a waterproof pouch is a must! Having this information with you will keep you prepared in case of an emergency or are stopped by Marine Patrol. Important paperwork includes but is not limited to your Boater Safety Card, registration, ID, and insurance.

Safe Steering and Turning

Turning and steering as a beginner can be a bit nerve-wracking, so this is what you need to do. A little throttle will need to be given in order to steer, so practice doing so at a controlled pace. Always remember to keep a safe riding distance from others!

Consider Taking a Boaters Safety Course

We recommend taking a boaters safety course for those who are first-time riders. These tests can be taken online for a very inexpensive price, and you will learn a lot from them! This will help you be more comfortable on the Sea-Doo and keep yourself and those around you safe!
